This is a spange for an EK1, it does not look good to me. Poor details and a strange looking head.

It looks like a 1st class 1939 spange by Eugen Schmidhäussler to me. But the 'beard' is not something i've seen on this makers spange before. The hardware looks good imo, but best wait for more informed opinions as this design is faked.

    Regards, Ned.

As this is an award, I have move the thread to the Orders and Decorations Forum where it will get specialized attention.

I think the only wrong thing on this spange is the poor photo. Until better photos would be provided, I agree with those who say this is good Schmidlhausser.

Agreed. 90 degrees straight on makes a hell of a difference when trying to authenticate any award. I still think it's a good one though; looking at the hardware especially.

I checked my reference photos. First photo is original Schmidlhausser taken from circa 90 degrees. Second photo is original Schmidlhausser from an angle, that is very similar to the angle from which the thread starter was taken. As you can see, from this point of view it looks like having strange "beard", mentioned by Big Ned. In fact, it´s only the thickness of material, that shows up. From the second point of view, the date finnish looks to be very roughly made. In fact, it´s only the reflection of light.
