The "metal glue" would have probably been a type of solder ( soft / lead / silver ) or zamak ( kirksite ) wet painted onto the surfaces to be joined.
Zamak is a zinc based casting alloy for prototypes with a very low melt temp that can actually be painted to a surface - a good way to assemble metals without glue.

I would assume an alloy supplier in the UK would know about it - maybe hobby stores or suppliers of lead-lighting ( stained glass ) equipment or suchlike?

Leave it as it is. It will never look quite right and collectors in the future will always view it as a put together piece.

It's come apart, it's part of the history of the piece, enjoy it for what it is, not what you might be able to make it.
    My thoughts exactly!
