I thought I should also add that Dietrich's book was published in 2007. In the intervening 4 years, a tremendous amount of new information has come to light (perhaps prompted by discussions arising from the book). There is now photo confirmation of Deumer making Knights Crosses of an unidentified type (not the 3/4 ring) in 1940, as well as the interesting discovery that the "Sedlatzek" cross in his book shares the same frame as the postwar Souval copies (with the "dipping 3"), and that this frame (with a "dipping ring") may well have been used by an unknown maker early in the war to make the original crosses with dipping rings which appear from time to time in period photos. In a couple more years, there will certainly need to be an updated and revised version of the book.
