Hello, all!

I am currently being offered this EK1. The seller has given me permission to post it here for review.

Eisernes Kreuz 1. Klasse "26" FOR REVIEW

What are your thoughts? Any advice and additional information on this potential purchase would be greatly appreciated!

An original Mayer EK1 but compare the core with mine, look at the difference in the number '3'.

However, following a quick bit of research, there are three core types found in Mayer EK1s and the core in Joe's cross is labelled the 'third' type. Whether or not it is the third evolution or just a collector's term I have no idea.

It has the correct die flaw in the beading on the 6 0'clock arm.

Don't worry, I got it.

Without being pedantic, because it's part of the design and not an actual flaw - ie; a crack in the tooling or where a piece has broken from the tool I personally would call it a feature and not strictly a 'die flaw'.

Yep---The LONG bead.

It came in handy when I was trying to buy my 1914 BH Mayer.

I just did a bit of editing on the cross that Adrian posted above.

Have a look at Stefan's EK1 reference site (in the Useful Reference Links thread) and go to the BH Mayer crosses, open up the first cross and use the sideways arrows to go across to the last image and it is pointed out.

10 days later... It is crazy how busy I've been with my new job.

Here are some quick pictures that I snapped of my new EKI. It looks slightly more salty in my pics... perhaps because I was forced to take pictures inside.

I'd love to hear opinions on my new EKI!
