Soliciting reviews on this EKI. Adrian, you have seen this one alread. Now I am throwing it up here for the others to take a gander at. It is not marked. The catch has been bent down and the tip of the pin is also bent to the side. It appears to be three piece construction but the seam is very faint in some areas. The core is not magnetic.

Maybe it's navy or something [not magnetic]

Replacement core? Looks fine to me.

I'm curious about the cores of EKs being magnetic. When are they supposed to be magnetic and when not? Befuddled, I.

    Hi Todd,

Yes, you know my opinion and thoughts, glad you got it. I hope it was a good price?

The core is not a replacement and was made with a non magnetic core. I have one by this maker also with a brass or copper core, you can find them quite easily.

The theory they were made like this for the navy is a collector's urban legend. There are many documented and proven cases of Kriegsmarine personel being awarded magnetic EKs. There is one example here.

The cores were supposed to be iron - hence the name of the award but many makers used other materials even though they weren't supposed to. I even have a zinc cored cross in the collection.

Looking for LDO marked EK2s and items relating to U-406.....
