    Default Eisernes Kreuz.

    Hi all,
I brought this medal with another item, It is exactly as I received it. Should I clean it ? I know next to nothing about medals so any opinions or views would be welcome. The pin has the number 20 on the inside of the pin next to the hinge Please let me know if you need any more photos

    Thanks, Keith

A very nice and original CF Zimmermann.
Please do not clean it, it will lose its character and will look exactly what it is - a cleaned cross. As well as that it will look completely out of place with the wonderful case. The patina on both are very nice and I would leave them that way.

I'd leave it the way it is too, as Adrian has suggested................ !

Here's some second class EKs below Keith.
Basically the second class is a double sided medal suspended from a ribbon. The ribbon of this medal was worn from the second or third buttonhole on the tunic or on a ribbon bar. The medal itself wasn't worn unless it was court mounted on a medalbar, either singly or with other medals.
The first class is a pinback or screwback award worn on the left breast pocket of the tunic. The second class had to have been awarded before the first class could be bestowed.

I've also attached a few pics of the awards in wear......

    Nice set !
Cross and case match with those ones used by Zimmermann and it seems a late, I think late 1943-1944 production.
