Very informative, The Iron Cross is my favorite German award. Growing up in 1960s, the iron cross became a bit of a fetish item for the hip and rebellious. I remember seeing a picture of a young Jimmy Page of the Yard birds/Led Zeppelin wearing an Iron Cross 2nd.class. There is also a infamous photo of the late Brian Jones of the Rolling Stones, wearing black SS uniform, complete with jackboots.

I agree completely. It was very cool back in the day. It made a big enough
impression on me that I now have collected more that a few of them and I still
wear an iron cross patch on my bike leathers.
