    Default Eisernes Kreuz Questions

Hello guys just had a couple of probably simple questions, or maybe questions that are asking too much into detail. But worth the ask out of interest. Below are pics of two of my crosses, EK1 souval cross and an EK2 with a standard S & l type frame.

I just wanted to know what the lines are on the sides of the ek1? i havent seen this on my other crosses, could it be from a vice or just a manufacturing mistake.

Also on the ek2 which is a mis stamped example anyway, what is the filler inbetween the two parts of the cross on the sides as i havent seen this before either.

    Thanks in advance

On the EK1, as the marks are all in the same place on different ends of the arms I would say they're vice or clamp marks. I don't think they're file marks as they are too regular.

The filler on the EK2 is solder. You can see file marks on this one quite clearly where they removed the excess.

As Adrian said, I always understood them to be file marks made while applying the final touches to the cross. Nice crosses you have.
