    As far as I know there was not a special reason why they made EKs with brass-alloy cores, other than issues directly involved with the production of the cores (availability issues/easier manufacturing etc). This practice was actually forbidden for obvious symbolic reasons, but rules were flaunted then as now.

    Don't believe that myth about these being made especially for the Kriegsmarine etc. There is nothing to substantiate such a dubious claim.

    Honestly I 'm more for an iron core on this one but if it has a brass core it is just becauese this material don't produce rust.

    That is of course probably the main reason yes, Fabrizio - I should have mentioned that also. And this is the reason that the Kriegsmarine-myth was established in the first place.
