Are you sure it's a brass core, hard to see from photo?

No sorry, I am far from an expert. I just assumed brass from what I have read, it is gold in color. Did they use any other metals? I know its not magnetic.
Thanks guys, I am happy to know it is real. I hear some people say that brass was an Navy issue. Any truth to that?
There is some who believe that, but I don't think there is any corroborating period proof.

It's a Wachtler & Lange cross, I also have one with a non magnetic core but with a round wire catch as opposed to the square section pictured above.
There is a thread here regarding non magnetic cored EKs for Kriegsmarine personnel.
Looking for LDO marked EK2s and items relating to U-406.....
Yeah i was told a few times by a number of collectors the brass centers were kreigsmarine issue so as not to rust..never actually gone hunting for wartime evidence of this though...nice 1st class though...
