I don't like to be the one to disagree, but I really do not think this is a B.H. Mayer cross.
Admittedly, I have a few pints on board, but I believe there are a lot of differences.
Here are some images comparing this cross to two of my old '26s'. Leaving aside the difference of catches, note that the pin on the cross here extends higher over the hinge than it does on the two other Mayer crosses.
Also, the dates on the obverse are similar but not the same (especially the '3' in 1939) as are the inner corners of the beading.
Just my thoughts...

I see what you mean...the numbers on the OP's cross appear thicker as well...I look forward to some more input on this one...
