There is a fascinating article in this months B&D Publishings excellent International Medal Collector magazine.

In the basement of a war ruined factory buldling of Eugen Schmidhaussler in Pforzheim many EK2's were found.

The company has the PKZ number 28 ( a known maker of the KVK, all three Wound badges and the Ost Medal)

A typical EK2 weighs 20gr these crosses weighed 28 gr and were one-piece and unpainted.

It seems Schmidhaussler wanted to supply and manufacture EK2's or possibly as a subcontractor to a large firm

Apart from the crude appearance of the beading there is no reason why Dr Doehle would have rejected this cross.

Let me know if you have any Q's on this and I will refer to the article

It would be good if you can Nick.

A cynical person may be lead into thinking a new batch of fake crosses may hit the market very soon all marked '28' based upon this recent new information....

    It's happened before!
