What do you all think of these two? Is the two ends of the ribbon ring not meeting a problem?

I think the EK2 looks good to me. The ribbon ring is OK, I don't think that all of them were soldered closed. However, I've just looked at a lot of mine, and all of them were. Now I'm not sure.
I'm not up much on EK1's yet. I will say the rounded corners are the same as a fake I have, but the 3 in 1939 is different. I have read that the red rust is not a good sign, but then again iron will rust. The experts will tell. Meanwhile, I would probably buy the EK2, but pass on the EK1.
Original EK2, postwar EK1.

Agreed, Two fine specimens although the red rust does however worry me but let a few other opinions in before you make a final judgement!
Thank you both for the quick clarification.
Adrian, any idea on the maker for the EKII? I tried asking if there was any maker marking, but the auction company's email address was no good.
Not sure of the maker right now but will look later on unless anyone else can identify it during the day. Wait for a few more thoughts on the EK1 as well. My first instinct was post war Souval looking at the core features but again, wait for a few more opinions as my bleary eyed opinion at 02:20 this morning may have missed something!

The EK1 is a Souval but I'm not sure if post war or not

I'd be saying Souval on the EK1.
The frame is a Souval, the core has a fat swastika and no dipping three which leads me to think post war made.
