This is on auction locally and I was wondering if I could determine the maker and whether it is indeed an original piece. It is being sold with a case, but this doesn't look quite right. These are the only pictures I can get. Please have a look and tell me what you think. The current bid is already past $480 and way too rich for my blood, but I'm curious. Thank you.

Yes, it's a Mayer. The pin is quite distinctive and was used on other things, not just EK1s. Here are the reverses of my Mayer EK1 and Minensuchabzeichen, you will see the same reverse hardware.
Out of curiosity, is this the above being sold as a Russian Hoard set?

I wondered if that was being used in the sales pitch and was pushing the price up.

No Adrian. Down here we sometimes realize very high prices for certain militaria when on auction. It depends, of course, how many people really want the item, they seem to go into a frenzy. Isn't this price a tad on the high side? Is the case correct for this maker?

The Russian Hoard crosses were all Mayer and came in the cases with the rectangular push button. From the single pic of the case above I believe this is one of those cases and therefore correct for Mayer EK1s. I have seen them in the round push button cases too so who knows for sure what case goes with what cross anymore?
