Re: My firsrt Class Iron Cross L/56
Stewy, I agree the stampings are subtly different. The L/56 pinback, as I understand things, is rare, and especially in the condition as shown here. There is more than just the differences in the stamp and composition of the pin that convinced me.
Another view. . .

Bill does your cross an original? it seems an ok to me, but the pin confused me a little bit

Re: My firsrt Class Iron Cross L/56
Yes, it is original, however yours is obviously in much better condition. It appears the pin on your example is plated, while on my example the plating, if there ever was any, is worn away. The clasps appear identical.

Re: My firsrt Class Iron Cross L/56
I agree with you that plating could be worn away from the pin, It could be easily worn away during the long carring on the uniform, The mates from the russian forum told me that EK1 with the L/56 stamps are rare, so what do you think about it?

Re: My firsrt Class Iron Cross L/56
I agree, they are rare. They are more commonly seen in screwback.

She is a good original. I would love to have that one in my collection. Just goes to show how important good photography and second opinions are. Congratulations on the nice pick up.
