Not good in my opinion. Poor detail.
Plus you have recognised the "too cheap" trap.
Cheers, Ade.

Ends of loops not done with the quality you expect with such a high award. These oakleafs are a high award from the german military and i suggest you pickup the many books that cover the KC,OAKLEAVES TO,SWORDS,before attempting to buy such a Rare award IMO.Carl
A fake set of oakleaves. Out of curiosity, do you know what the makers mark is stamped on the left hand side? I can't make it out.
Godet were the only firm contracted to produce these awards for the PKZ and therefore they will all be very similar. There is a first and second pattern, this one is neither. There are few 'L' marked oaks to be found but these were not official award pieces, they were for retail sale only until regulations were put in place to ban these types of sale and the stock of these 'L' marked pieces were given to the PKZ although a few were used as official awards. No original set of oakleaves have the pimple flaw on the top right of the front oakleaf.
Looking for LDO marked EK2s and items relating to U-406.....
The detail one would expect from such an item should be very sharp. The above piece appears much softer than I would expect to see on an original example. The price, is always likely to be a good indicator too.

Carl
ADRIAN,The reverse of the oakleaves are marked 900 on the left, while the designation 'silber" and maufactors code L/50 is on the right.Carl
A little bit more informatiom on the oakleaves.Their is a rare type that only has the 'SILBER' mark of 900 and it has a flat reverse not concave as is the norm.Carl
The site it is on is>>>> World War I Medals
They also have a knights cross that looks hand aged (notice the scratches on the arms)... the oakleaves are on for $1500.
How do you know that Carl? On the website they're down as only being marked with '800'? And is it marked 'SILBER' or SiLBER'?
You have to wonder about a dealer who 'apparently' has a high end item such as the Oakleaves, can't be bothered to take more than two very poor quality photos, can't add a description more than five words long, two of which are 'oak leaves' and only asks $1500?
It's almost as if he knows something aint quite right............... and don't get me started on the RK he has for sale.
