To add to the list of forgotten mass murders.
Remember that Mr Churchill, the Winston variety. At the end of WWII thousands of Russians wished to remain for fear that too return would mean certain death.
Churchill and Co. sent them back without a thought just to please Stalin. Those men women and children returned to die and joined the long list of the legally murdered, along with gypsies, gays and the insane. Of course the politically correct excuses were made.
The same man, Churchill [remember him as First Sea Lord and the Dardanelles] wanted to let the army loose on British strikers.
Strikers working twelve hours a day who couldn’t feed their families, while that gentleman smoked cigars that would have feed a family for a week or more.
History is written by the victors, it also helps when you have good PR.
Don’t get me wrong we did need the arrogant SOB to win, also had the odd brainwave. A few good men like Brooke worked behind the scenes, stopping him losing the war with some of his madder ideas.

The discussion is interesting, but please remember from where the thread was started. Please stick to that. There are many other war crimes to be discussed, but not on this thread. That said, I'd like to see some pics of this memorial.

Why doesn't the USA govt. erect a monument to the 1000's that were murdered in the air raids on Dresden? What about them? Where is their voice? Who gives a crap about them except me?

I agree one should be erected, but over there. As far as one being erected over here,no. It didn't happen here. I personally don't believe in monuments, museums or whatever being erected at taxpayer expense.Let those where it happened put something up 'and' pay for it. We here in the U.S. have our own misfortunes regardless of race or religion which have been erected. After all, should those across the 'pond' be putting up structures to commemorate our historical history? It happened here, not over there or in Russia,Africa etc.

And here's another point: I find a real irony in the fact that as the Russians were sitting in judgement at Nuremberg, the Volksdeutsche (men, women, children and the elderly) in the east were being raped, murdered and brutally expelled by Russians, Poles, Czechs and other eastern European peoples, even though many of them had nothing to do with National Socialism or its crimes. They were persecuted simply because they were Germans. You don't hear a lot about that either!
That subject has certainly been memoired by many who were there...

However, it was supressed by the Soviet government up until the end, ingored by the Western world (even German accounts), and of course, is "less popular and as interesting a subject" now-a-days compared to Third Reich atrocities.

    IMO of course...
