35th Coastal Battery -*Fort MAXIM GORKY II*- in German reference.
Located 10KM south of the center of Sevastopol, on Khersones, this fort was the most modern and strongest (armor plated / reinforced concrete) forts in the Sevastopol complex.
As it was in the far south, the siege of 1942 did in most of the defenders in the north and east areas.
This was one of the last strongholds that remained...
There seemed no need to use "The Dora" or "Thor" here, so the defenders (several thousand, including many females) were given an ultimatum by Herr Von Manstein, who was indeed the victor at hand, to surrender, or be buried alive via the demolitions of German engineers.
I have not researched what may have happened afterwards... If anybody out there knows, please, fill us in.
But judging from the images I have made at the site, I guess the the said engineers worked their skills in in any case...
