I went a few years ago and stayed in Rethymnon. Maybe hire a car and drive down to Hóra Sfakíon, that's where the majority of Allied soldiers were evacuated, its a stunning drive through the foothills of the White Mountains and down onto the Libyan sea coast, stunning views

    Cheers

The best book on the battle, by Jean-Yves Nasse, one specialist about FJ troops.
Many pictures, in French and English.

There is a small museum with many rusted items, not for a woman!

I remember I visited a German Cemetery with a group of women, after, they asked me : How many cemeteries to see now?

also who made the German cemetery, was it the dead Germans who fell at the battel?
who made the allied cemetery? did the germans make it or was it made after the war?

I would go to Rethymnon. Nice hotels, nice beach, lots going on, was also one of the areas where the FJ landed. Maleme is only a little place in the middle of nowhere really. Rethymnon is only a short drive up the coast from Maleme
