A rare chance to excavate two slots across the WWII stopline in Carmarthenshire.
One slot was hand dug to the maximum safe working depth of 1.2 m. This gave us its width of 5.5 m, but not the depth or its profile, so a second slot was dug using a tracked digger to take it down to full depth of 2.65 m.
The period photo shows what it would have looked like and the drawn profile mentions the brushwood revetment of which traces were found in the second slot.
The 2nd slot was far too dangerous to climb into and it was only photographed from on top and it quite rapidly started to collapse.
