Entering Germany in 1944????????????

Hey Guys,

in my summer holidays, I took time to travel into a famous dark wood bordering
Germany.

If anyone can tell me his name, he can decide if he wants a report of
this trip with a few pictures

but Lucky????????? Yes you are right, it is the Hürtgen-Wald,

ok here we go:

I packed my command-car Moritz early in the morning and started up from
the Mosel-River into the Eifel-Mountains.

The route went over Wittlich-Bitburg to Prüm with its famous church:



to LosheimerGraben where Peiper started his run in Dec. 1944 to Antwerpen



take a look at the old man with his original forest-uniform of the fifties, I had a nice talk with him (later more)

Then I drove to Büllingen in Belgium with its famous crossing:





and over Bütgenbach and its impressive railrod-bridge





Now I took the direction back to Germany and went over Camp Elsenborn



to Kaltherberge



and the so called Eifel-Pearl Monschau with his Wine-Cellars



and bear browerys






Monschau was not so badly damaged by the Americans and freed as the
first town in Germany in Sept. 15th. 1944

Stuka, perhaps you have the wrong arguments???!!!

The Eifel-Ardennes-Region is beautiful for holidays. Lovely villages, cottaches, little barns, fishing for trouts,
walking, mountain-biking, swimming in the lakes, sentimental old restaurants and historic hotels.

Try it without bunkers and the old bad germans in their graves.

Nuno, I will go on, but I need some time.

Later I entered the destroyed village of Lammersdorf which was under pressure for five month and an early american
target in Sept. 1944.
4000-6000 grenades made it not pretty looking:





Only a few old barns exist today.




Entering Simmerath you are looking at the rebuild factory of Junkers which made many parts for the Wehrmacht



Even few old farms exist there too:


At 12:00 o'clock I reached the church of Vossenack in the mid of the Hürtgen-Forest, my first target
for my excursions:

The Hürtgenwald-Region in an overview:



on the right side above the green hell of Hürtgen with Vossenack, Hürtgen, Kommerscheid and
Schmidt.
And very right in the middle a blue pocket of the Rur-Stausee=reservoir.

I. 6. Oct. 1944 -16. Oct. 44 9. US-Div.

II. 2. Nov. 1944 - 8. Nov. 44 the so called famous Allerseelenschlacht, defeat of the 28. US-Div.

III. 16. Nov. 1944 Operation Queen, 1. and 9. US-Div.

IV. A bit of silence in Hürtgen because of the Dec. 1944 Ardennen-Battle

V. Battle in the Hürtgen-Forest and the Rur-Stausee-reservoir until Febr. 1945

And the results: The forest and the RurStausee conquered after 6 Month, roundabout 20-25000 americans and
15-20000 germans dead, missed or wounded in this Forest called Hürtgen.

His name is similar to the english word to hurt=verletzen
