Take a packed lunch - the cafe is expensive otherwise the coffee shop/little bakery opposite Kennington Police Station is good, (according to my wife!)
    Allow LOADS of time.
Apparently, if its still on, the "Conflicts since the 2nd WW" is good.
And while you're at it, if it's still on display, there should be a Towed British Army Searchlight on display......... it belonged to my unit and I operated it when I was in the TA Engineers

    Regards etc

Mate of mine lives right across the IWM, been there many times when I go and see my mate. Just to much to see there, one of the best war museums you can visit!

I went there in 2010 and can only agree: Everything is worth seeing, so bring lots of time.

Here's the sight that will greet you when approaching the museum...:

Oh, and if you have the time, you should also go and visit the Churchill War Rooms.

PS: While visiting the IWM I overheard the following exclamation, made by a schoolboy after looking at a large oil painting of the Führer: "Look at that big poster of Hitler! Man, he's UGLY!" Goes to prove that children and fools do tell the truth, I guess.

The Holocaust section is good and the large scale model of just a section of Auschwitz does a good job of demonstrating just how big the place must of been.

The gates of hell were opened and we accepted the invitation to enter" 26/880 Lance Sgt, Edward Dyke. 26th Bn Northumberland Fusiliers , ( 3rd Tyneside Irish )

Thought shall be the harder , heart the keener,
Courage the greater as our strength faileth.
Here lies our leader ,in the dust of his greatness.
Who leaves him now , be damned forever.
We who are old now shall not leave this Battle,
But lie at his feet , in the dust with our leader

I believe so. Not sure if that is a permanent exhibit or will be removed after the IWM closes in January for 6 months.
