The family and I went to Hershey Park, Pennsylvania, yesterday and heading into Hershey we crossed the Major Richard Winters Memorial Bridge. I had no idea we would cross it so I didn't have the camera ready. Let's just say it's not a bridge befitting a man of his distinguished accomplishments.

Unfortunately the new Richard Winters Leadership Memorial in Normandy is very similar i'm afraid , a fantastic idea to commemorate a great man but the actual statue itself leaves a lot to be desired !

The gates of hell were opened and we accepted the invitation to enter" 26/880 Lance Sgt, Edward Dyke. 26th Bn Northumberland Fusiliers , ( 3rd Tyneside Irish )

Thought shall be the harder , heart the keener,
Courage the greater as our strength faileth.
Here lies our leader ,in the dust of his greatness.
Who leaves him now , be damned forever.
We who are old now shall not leave this Battle,
But lie at his feet , in the dust with our leader

Wait till you see the Nelson Mandella bridge in Arnhem.
