markings on British cemetary crosses
hi. i have been looking at a picture taken in 1948 of a British cemetary showing the crosses used before the headstone we are all familiar with. some of the crosses have the letters DW and some have KA. does this mean died of wounds and killed in action ? . cheers, mike

yes !
hi, thanks for that. the reason i ask is because the photo i was refering to was my of uncles grave cross taken in venrai cemetary in 1948. i am confused because to the best of my knowledge and according to regimental records he was killed in action not died of wounds. of course it is a sad question as to what exactly constitutes died of wounds instead of killed in action. mike
