after that little town, we stopped at Pozieres

    An australian Monument at Pozieres:

Not far from there, there were building a house. curious as i am, i was looking in the dirt after some battlefield objects. I found a .303 cardridge case for a Lee enfield.

There are also some ruines of the "fort PoziƩres":

On our way to go home, we passed again trough Pozieres.
These are the last pictures that i made:

    The tank monument:

    Some of the tanks:

Right in front of it, you have the windmill monument. As stupid as i am, i took picture's of every sign, but not of the overal monument.
Here is a picture I find on the internet:

These are the pics I made of the monument:

and, again, as curious is I am, I'm walking around this monument, looking for other signs of the battlefield. And I found one: a pigtail. I put it in the car, an now its one of my pride's in my collection (together with my .303 cartridge case):

The other stuff around it are things i have found at battlefields or get from people who dig, if you look at the german ersatz head, you see the .303 cartridge case i found.

    Kind Regards Vincent

Great set of photo's I'm sure your visit was moving. The mist and bare trees added to the sombre atmosphere of the sites.

The Scottish memorial you have posted is in Contalmaison and commemorates Macraes Battalion the 16th Bn of the Royal Scots, a Pals Battalion from Edinburgh who reached the village on 1/7/1916 the first day of the Battle of the Somme. The Battalion contained most of the Heart of Midlothian football team

The fort in Pozieres is the famous " Gibraltar " Blockhouse , ten years ago much more was onj view and you could go down into it , the main part of it is 30 feet underground !!.

The Tank memorial is in the village of Flers and commemorates the first ever use of the Tank in Battle during the Battle of Flers / Courcelette on 15/9/1916.

I have been to the Somme over 20 times but not this year , your photos are reminding me i must go again soon

    regards

Forgot to mention the massive Thiepval Memorial has the names of over 73,000 men who are missing in action on the Somme

This figure is the British and commonwealth only !!

Bodies are recovered all the time from this area both British,German and French , i found a German in Boom Ravine in 2006,

I remember it, when you say it to me.
Their was at the dantzig cemetery a Welsh guy, and he told me that he became interested because of the participation of the best football team from the 20th century.
He told me alsow, that he was once at a cemetery, and surching for a Welsh name, he found a name in the books of the cemetery, and there was an adress in it. he wrote it down en surch the home of that soldier.
The house still exist and he passes it every day when he go to work.
