It is 5:30 in the morning here and I have been reading and viewing photos on this thread for over 6 hours. Fascinating and I can't look away. Kudos for all the research and hard work. I want to go to the Ardennes more than anywhere else in the world after seeing this. Congratulations to all of you who have shared your images and thoughts here. Any chance of someone organizing a tour over there next year? Rudeerude, You're fusion of old and new images is giving me goosebumps. Incredible work, brother! Bakersfield is only a few hours from where I am on the Mexican border. Luckystrike, thank you for starting this amazing thread. I hope you are able to pursue this interest for many years to come.

Yes, it is indeed a Sten MKII. No doubt picked up in previous actions against British or Commonwealth forces.

    This is a superb thread

    Cheers, Ade.

Actually, you would only be able to tell if it was a German made Sten copy with an in hands examination. The exact copies, know as the Gerät Potsdam were only made for use for special forces of the SS/SD. They even faked British proof marks.

The more regular German Sten based design was the MP3008. But this fetured a vertical mag. See the pic below, the German gun is at the bottom. Note too the ""T" shaped stock. They did not feature the skeleton stock.

    Cheers, Ade.
