    Folks,

I visited RAF Hendon Aircraft Museum on the outskirts of London last weekend and wanted to share some of the photos of the aircraft on display. The museum is located about 30 minutes outside of central London and is accessible via the underground, train or car. The official name is RAF Museum London but it is situated on the old RAF Hendon site. Entry is free although you can make a donation as i did to the museum.

The is the 3rd time i've visited over the last 35 years and it's still just as impressive each time i go. There are some 90 aircraft on display including Avro Lancaster, B24 Liberator, B17 Flying Fortress, FW190, ME109, Spitfire, Hurricane, Avro Vulcan and many more. There are a total of 6 hangars, although i thought the newly refurbished hangers could of had more aircraft.

I hope you enjoy the photos of these iconic aircraft,
    Nick

    Great pics - thank you.

Did you pick up anything about the rumoured closure of the Battle of Britain hall and relocation to Cosford?

It is an amazing museum. No BS just the aircraft! I visited when my son was in the RAF. He is in the Royal Navy now (HMS Queen Elizabeth) so guess what sort of gear I have been browsing recently! Great new experiences for an ex-Brown job / Pongo! Good job I have such fascination for everything military isn't it? At Hendon my personal faves (apart from the Lancaster which it is a legal requirement for any true Brit to adore) were the EE Lightning, the McDonnell Douglas Phantom (an enormous presence) and the Me 262. Very difficult to pick these three out of so many fantastic exhibits. Thanks for reminding me of a brilliant day out!

    Regards

    Mark

Thanks gents for all the comments.

I did not hear anything about the closure of the Battle of Britain hall. Two of the hangars have had extensive refurbishment so I'd imagine the site as a whole is relatively safe.

Very hard to pick a favourite aircraft. The big bombers are all so impressive. I particularly liked the P47 Thunderbolt and Me109. Unfortunately a section with the Stuka was fenced off.

The Fleet Airarm Museum in Yeovil is also a great place to visit as is of course the Tank Museum at Bovington.

Is there Junkers 88 on display?

Great pictures by the way, and if you have any more?

    Please lets see them
