Recent trip to Berlin !!

Here are some photos of a recent recce trip to Berlin for a forthcoming Tour

We tried to get in as much as possible in a few days whilst also looking at the breakout attempts on 2/5/45 and the final Battles for the Reichstag and Berlin mitte.

These show the area of the breakout which took place on the night of the 1st/2nd May 1945 after Weidling had surrendered , Kampfgruppe of the Nordland Divison and other units attempted to breakout over the Weidendammbrueke across the River Spree , along Friedrich Strasse with a direction towards the Humboldthain Flak Turm , these photos show the view across the Brueke up Friedrichstrasse taken 68 years later , in 1945 the road was littered with wrecked German SPW and Panzers, thew third one showing the view towards the Friedrich Strasse Bahnhof,

Two more photos taken from the Bridge back towards the Bahnhof , the rail S Bahn track across the road is featured in many photos from the time , the Freidrichstrasse Bahnhof was the RV Point for all remaining Troops in the Zitadelle area to form up for the assault which was to be led by the remaining KonigsTiger and SPW of SS Panzer Aufklarungs Abt 11 .

Thanks for the new photos! I note that all the surrounding buildings are post-1945 construction...

The Reichstag and also a small section of the wall from the Gdansk shipyard the climbing of which started the fall of the Soviet Empire whcih eventually led to the fall of the Berlin Mauer !!
