Was looking for some information on the different models of the 39 Eierhandgranate, and came across this very interesting site. It show some stuff they made shortly after the war, using handgrenade parts. Check out the lighter made from the Splittermantel! And the oil lamp that has a base made from Kfz tail light! Pitty the site is in German, and can not be copied for translation.

The use of hand grenades bodies for the production of household goods

German Eihandgranate model 1939, shown here with manufacturer's stamp 'msl', the Birkigt for the Arno, preparations and lightweight works Rostock, Luebeck is 159-160 Str.

Here are just conversions of level C are known, ie household goods which were in whole or part of hand grenades complements virtually unchanged household.
In and of themselves were hand grenades because of their shape and small size is not the ideal starting material for the manufacture of household goods. In particular, the oval shape of the Eihandgranate 39 had no natural ground and closed the production of many much-needed pieces of equipment.

It says much for the great lack of use of any form that still factory-conversions were made from hand grenades. This hand grenades had been replaced with sheet metal housing in the last months of the war is already scarce and more and more by hand grenades or wooden body with concrete casing.

I had several times written about explosives - so ready fabricated hand grenades - under strict supervision of the Allies deposited or have been destroyed, because prevent the occupation forces wanted, that could arm fanatical Nazis again and start a guerrilla war, like Hitler, this last in his speeches had asked the Germans.

For the conversion, therefore, only unfilled sheet body by hand grenades, parts of which were precursors in embossing and question that still camped in tinware factories and munitions factories.
It is likely that most conversions also exactly in these factories or in the vicinity were made.
At the same time, these companies may still possessed the forming molds for hand grenades and related parts sheet. What was for companies that had no other usable molds and more natural than to post-war production levels of hand grenades construction - ev-modified - nachzufertigen directly for the production of household goods, such as it was to produce small sauce ladles.
The few suitable shape of the hand grenade limited the benefits for post-war products but also to the immediate postwar period 1945-46. Thereafter found themselves under the still extremely poor production conditions are usually better solutions.

Although the shape of the Eihandgrante appears less suitable for commercial products, objects emerge out of this in far from a greater diversity of products as a stick grenades. Of the latter there are particular potato masher, where the wooden handle of the hand grenade was found as a handle use.
It would have nearby to use the head of the stick grenade for the production of cups, where there was a huge shortage. Especially when one considers that many other people found unsuitable lower part, adding a new benefit.
I have those cups are not known. Perhaps it is because of the high-alloy thin steel rusts easily and those cups no long-lived.

An interesting post-war use of Eihandgranate was the use of the unaltered metal jacket as litter box for ATA-scouring powder. Fuze hand, was a screen plate and was used to coat an ATA grenade glued band. As a former packaging supplies were safely removed and only a few copies are getting very rare in auctions.

Certainly widespread was the use of the complete Eihandgranatenteile as a baby rattle. It was the cover with the otherwise inward leading ignitor tube mounted easily reversed, allowing the igniter tube is now used as a handle. In the grenade body before a wood or Tonkugel was laid. Since this clay or wooden beads burst with frequent use and showered their parts from the two sound holes, one finds these rattles today almost always without a ball.
Whether the two sound holes were now due to technical reasons, or as specified by the Allies had to be installed to reduce the reconversion to the hand grenade is not known.
The shown rattle was produced from an already-completed hand grenade body, which can be seen from the fact that had already been imprinted with the manufacturer's code 'etm'. The label 'etm' was in the 2nd World War II to the company & factory stove enamelling GmbH Darmstadt, Landwehrstr. assign 63-67

This ring is similar to the above-described baby rattle. However, only the upper part was used of the former bomb. The igniter tube was reinserted vice versa as a handle. With the flange of the fuse tube, however, was previously used with a slice of eye in the upper part of the hand grenade. At this loop was then attached to the clapper.
Whether this was a table-bell 'fine people' or even to a child's toy is not clear. The chime was simple - like all Notfertigungen the war - for a variety of possibilities available.

A less common use is as a roundabout (Dopsch). For this purpose, the bearing of the support ring was down herausgebeult pointed to a conical tip formed. Instead of the igniter tube, a cap was rebated with a collar. It was a retaining ring mounted to rotate. Wrapped one now a string or put the thong around the collar and pulled it off quickly while simultaneously pressed the roundabout with the retaining ring on the floor, the top rotates on the ground and was a standard "Dopsch" with a whip over the ground are driven.

Food storage for the winter season was one of the great problems of the postwar years. But were Eisschänke freezers or even little or absent. Most families had only from the mid 50's a refrigerator.

Food meant to make it durable, especially in this einzukochen glasses. And fruit juice were stored in large measure. This made of Eihandgranaten funnel served to fill the freshly cooked and hot juice in bottles, to then be hermetically sealed. The funnels are not from dismantled bombs, but the rough bottom of the fuze Eihandgranate with welded pipe as a drain pipe. Are you dunkelantrazith enamel.

There are also rare funnel in which the upper part of a Eihandgranate was used.

Relatively common find Kellen sauces from the lower part of Eihandgranaten or other sheet material has been pulled in hand grenades shapes war. The scoop from hand grenades sheet can still be seen well on the relatively thin wall and the steel alloy. Certainly can be when the bottom of the zenith of the dome still find a few degrees. This would be by the hand grenade of the fixation point for the support bracket of the support ring was.
Kellen sauces from other materials can be determined only by measuring. Since the Eihandgranaten received but in stages in different sizes shapes their final form, is also not always possible with certainty. It was in fact not even necessarily the entire stamping steps of the Gran hand technicians also be applied to Soßenlöffelnäpfen. With the energy shortage was such effort that brought no benefit for use yes, even more unlikely. But only the last pressed a hand grenade was part of its final shape and final size. Especially with Kellen aluminum sheet only have the size of the spoon bowl and riveting, and manufacturing towards the handle on the war and the possibility of manufacturing in a former deep-drawing mold for hand grenades.

This lighter has not even made the Eihandgranate. it war against an additional two-part metal jacket, the top and bottom halves of the middle and slipped grenade, bayonet lock attached to each other have been contrary. One can picture this Verriegelunsschiene in the middle of the sheet metal casing on the well-recognized. Sense of the metal jacket was created, the hand grenade, the main pressure effect prior to weapon with fragmentation to make one. A more detailed description of this product in Saxony in 1947 - but apparently not yet sold - lighter, see here .

This small oil lamp, which could be as a table lamp as shown, or used with 90 degree tank as a wall lamp, could not been identified by us. Without a doubt it is a defense conversion from the period around 1946. It bears even the original Wehrmachtsfabe. The base could be made of a car tail light use. While the tank is below the typical shape of the hand grenade is the top part, but here in diameter too thick.

Of stick grenades, few different parts have been found.

It will particularly potato masher, whose stem is from the stick grenade model 1943, a simplified version of the stick grenade 24. This potato masher, however, are more often than shown above, conversions from Eihandgranate.
