Everyone has their favourite places to visit and I could go on forever, and there are numerous websites out there. However, I'd recommend getting hold of the relevant titles in the 'Battle Zone Normandy' series of guidebooks published by Sutton Publishing in the UK. Sadly they're OOP now, but can be found on e-bay. They give good ideas for car and walking visits, with then&now photos etc. They're a good starting point.

My only piece of advice would be...

DON'T MISS THE TIGER AT VIMOUTIERS !

    thanks guys,
I just seen the books look quite good, may have to get them.
This will be my first trip so just not sure how to plan it out, is there any good guild companies i could use while over there.
I may need to study more and go next year

The museum sounds good as does the Tiger.

IMPO the Holts one is good - as are probably the others mentioned ; these will mainly take you to all the most popular places ( Omaha Beach, Pegasus Bridge, etc ) and the various museums. Personally, I'm more into off-the-beaten-track places but then, I've been there a few times.

The Normandy Hedgerows book is OK if you're only interested in the US sector of operations. For a good, readable overview of the whole campaign I'd recommend something like Beevor's 'D-Day' or Hastings' 'Overlord'.

    Vimoutiers Tiger !!
I remember that one on the side of the road in 76 believe it or not! and Major &Mrs Holts were bought out?

A good friend of mine works for Ledgers, the head guide I believe Paul.........say hi to him from me when you see him Paul

I honestly don't believe going around Normandy now is as exciting as when I used to go in the 80's through the 90's. Most of it was undiscovered still. I remember going to find the "corridor of death" in 1985. There was an A4 piece of paper pointing to the direction pinned to a telegraph pole, and some of the better museums have folded now. It's far too touristy now

Well i was advised to get some of then Then and now books got "Panzers in normandy" and "D-day, invasion" "Battle of the Bulge: Then and Now"
by Paul carell. "Das Reich: The March of the 2nd SS Panzer Division Through France, June 1944" Max Hastings
"Lonely Planet Normandy & D-Day Beaches Road Trips" "Major and Mrs Holt's Pocket Battlefield Guide to Normandy"

the tour sounds good but i want to visit places inland also thinking of going for a week. Looks like some other good tours on the list and prices are not bad.
