Can someone please tell me how you can tell this is modern made?

Does look like new, but actually seems better made than most
I've seen on-line - it's not impossible for it to be unissued.
Contact Mark B. on his web site and attach the pics.
I'm sure he can clear this up for you.

There are more fakes around than originals these days,
and likely a reason for so few replies.........

He said it is unused. I just want to be 100% sure it's really before I drop that kind of money.

Mark seems to be an upstanding guy, and he knows his 101st stuff too. I'd trust him...

BUT, even the experts have been known to make mistakes in this hobby!

The immense popularity of the 101st Airborne with the additional interest spurred on by Band of Brothers, PLUS the fact that frankly the 506th was a small group of soldiers in the grand scheme of things in WWII is going to make this a near impossible/ expensive task.

I think your best bet would be finding what you want thru Top Kick or Eagle Patch Corner.
