Air gunners cold weather mask

Article about: Here's mine, a Luftwaffe Airgunners Mask issued to bomber crews on the Eastern Front. It has no labels, only the name 'Fritzl' crayoned on the inside. Regards, Ned.

Default Air gunners cold weather mask

First off, I am NO Allied air force gear expert but I believe this is a USAF cold weather mask for waist gunners in open gun ports.
A bit mothed / silverfish nipped but all there. I thought it was a bit rough around the eye holes until I read the label .......
so I guess it WAS issued but maybe not used much?

Happy to hear your thoughts - and, it will end up in the classifieds soon as it's not what I collect.

    Cheers, Dan

    Looks a good one Dan. Post-war ( 1947 ? ) but still ok, IMO.
These were probably phased out rather quickly with the
    'Jet Age' fast approaching.........
    Regards,

    Steve.

Did you get 1947 from the MIL-M-7475 code Steve?

Yes - just a guess - and the logo on the front reads 'U.S. Air Force'
obscured, though it is. The 'USAAF' officially became
    the 'USAF' in October 1947.........
    Regards,

    Steve.

I had a search on the net and yes, it does look like it's 1950's vintage issue - never mind, I guess the bomber boys wore something similar?

"Trim eyeholes to fit wearer"...I like the nice job the wearer did trimming them. I think I recognize Charlie Brown's ghost costume "I had a little trouble with the scissors..."
