This pattern replaced the old tin version in 1974/75, whose water resistance was suspect, something which was highlighted with tragic results on the Kiel Canal drop. The new lights were of the same design but made of plastic and still only gave out about as much light as a fire fly. These were only issued on night jumps.

It's a wasted trip baby. Nobody said nothing about locking horns with no Tigers.

Your not Kidding Gunny! imagine a moonless night going into freezing water or lying on a DZ with a broken femur, then having to fish this thing out of your jump smock pocket which is under your life jacket, then pull out the red contact pin and push it into the live terminal. I broke my leg once on a night jump and wasn't found for halve an hour which was good going. Maybe still in use today!

Thats about right, The MOD does not replace any kit until it starts killing guys. MK. 5 Parachutes, Snatch Land Rovers just for starters, It always takes a war to get kit upgraded.
