    As far as I can tell it appears to be made up of small squares of sheepskin - although it could be any hide. This would be time consuming to make in time of war, and I have never seen a military issue flying jacket made like this. My own thoughts are that it is more likely a fashion coat than anything to do with the military.

    My thoughts as well, I vaguely remember seeing them for sale.

    As said above it's not military!....
