    Hi René,

Thanks for your reply, is yours also a Grand'Mere made and dated 1945? If so, could you please check if the grommets are made of brass.

    Salutations, Michel

Found the bugger for you Michel, here you go. Details you asked for. Difficult for me to see if it's brass but I think it is - see last pic.

Para seems to look good to me, sure is a minty example. In many cases the 45 CAN beret were passed out to returning troops at end of war and postwar as to why they can be found in such great shape.

In the publication " Into the Maelstrom " by Ken Joyce there is detailed information on berets. There is a picture of a Grand'mere example which is the very same as the one posted save the acceptance stamp , 409 as opposed to 410. Given the various viewers codes this would appear to be passable.
In the text it mentions that apart from the Dorothea Hats Ltd. production runs the Grand'mere Knitting Company supplied small numbers to Shilo Parachute School late in 1944 and into 1945. Unfortunately the author does not go into exact manufacturing details. I believe there is a publication "Canuck " by Michael Dorrosh which has a colour photo of a khaki beret with brass vents.
