    Does anyone know how to find out if there was a Capt Joseph Scott Slattery 1st SAS?
    found a photo with his name to the reverse (camera down at the minute so cant post pic yet)
    possibly Fusiliers before SAS?

    think i may have found a relative:
    Cpt J S Slattery - SAS/ Royal Irish Fusiliers Genealogy
    if it turns out to be, it will be nice to return the picture to his grandson!

    Indeed, it would be nice to return it to his Grandson. Is he wearing the ribbon for an MC? Might make him a bit more researchable, have you tried the London Gazette?

    thanks spitace, yes i had the same thoughts about the MC, the only reference to JS Slatery is as follows:

    War Office, 23rd May, 1946
    The KING has been graciously pleased to approve
    that the following be Mentioned in recognition of
    gallant and distinguished services in the
    Mediterranean Theatre:
    R. Ir. Fus.
    Capt. J. S. SLATTERY (138963)
