Good question. The only answer I could give is "probably", but I'm sure there must have been occasions where Guards officers wore regular pips and general service buttons.

I noticed a complete uniform group to a REME officer recently, and among the items is a set of GS buttons, as well as a KD (one of two) with a set of REME dogs & buttons etc...So it seems that in his case, he had GS and unit marked buttons.
Also, from further research, I read that KD tunics might have unit marked, general service, plain metal, cloth covered, plastic or knotted buttons. Seems like anything goes!
