    Pattern looks to be US ...
    The "weave" I would hazard a guess at post war IF parachute material, (as the silk in WW2 chutes wouldn't actually show a weave pattern.)

    Might it be from a uniform part ?

    Thanks for your reply. Its fairly shapeless, but as it has several seams it could be part of a uniform.

    Is this actually silk? I wondered if it could by nylon.

    Although I have not seen it in its entirety I would hazard a guess that it could have been cut from the chute to make a scarf? I don't know if it is wartime or not but I know that this was fairly common practice. Apparently Max Hastings wore such a scarf, as his father cut it from a US parachute during Operation Market Garden as he was a War Correspondent.

    they were also used as helmet camo covers.

    this one looks to be the right type for WW2 the first one looks to be post war.

    The first one early viet-nam
    The second one looks good for ww2.
