It is a US Navy 'G1' model, but from the tag and slash pockets, I believe it
to be a commercial jacket from the 80's, or later.
Here are two G1's that I got at a local thrift shop. The one on the right
is by Avirex - 1980's or 90's ( $17.95 ! ) The smaller one is an
unknown brand that I gave to my wife - It's likely earlier,
and has a US Navy pilot wing on leather sewn inside
( $9.95 ! ) No slash pockets on either.
Originals have ' U S N ' in small perforations down the front
'wind break' panel behind the zipper - Still very stylish
and cool to wear.........

Ah, excellent, thanks for the info Steve! It's super nice and warm, and I only paid $40 for it, so I got a steal IMO!
Good quality replicas are about four hundred bucks and up.........!
I wear mine all the time in the spring and fall, and I know
that Rene has/wears one too !

Here's a link to my example https://www.warrelics.eu/forum/unifo...ket-ww2-99229/
and the USN perforations down the front 'wind break' (thanks Steve) are post WW2
Or was it 'U S N' painted behind the collar on WWII the types ? !
I read and replied to your thread only a month ago or so.
( Sorry - too many rum and cokes.........! )

Civilian copy based on USN G-1. USN issue G-1's did not have pointed flaps over the pockets and used a button not a snap. The fur collar did not extend into the body of the jacket. There was no snap at the top of the zipper at the collar, no snaps at all were used on the jacket. The closure at the neck was a metal hook and eye. The zipper is wrong, it should be a large sized brass TALON zipper. The lining is incorrect, UNS G-1's had a silk or satin medium brown lining, same for the pockets. Epaulets are wrong. Collar stitching is close but there should be USN in white (even after cleaning the paint remains in the leather and stitching) and later models (post war and Korea) had USN punched thru the wind flap which some pilots would thread with white silk cord to be used as fishing line or during escape/evasion.
I have my Step Dad's G-1 flown 76 missions over Korea and 101 missions over Viet-Nam that I still wear until he dies (I promised him he would be buried in it) it has his USN Squadron patches and a rare patch , the Tonkin Gulf Yacht Club.
My Dad's A-2 he wore while with the 7th Photo Group 13th Squadron 8th AAF and I have several A-2's (WW2 and Korea) some are in was found condition with unit patches and names/insignia.
Anyway, sorry for digressing, but this is a nice jacket as a civvie model (much like my daily wear A-2 ) and I will bet it has handwarmer pockets behind the regular pockets which was a definate non USN detail.
