Guys, here is a fake Supak maroon beret that no doubt will sell for a small fortune. The picture shown in this post is from the fake beret.
Supak did make maroon berets during ww2 (and black, khaki and green berets too) but they look slightly different:
Two stitched diamonds, spaced apart about 1 inch.
Only the outside diamond is dotted in white.
The stamp shows from top to bottom: broadarrow, size , Supak manufacturing co ltd (all small font, no capitals), year of production. Note a continuous white line running above the manufacturer's name.
On early post-war examples you will find the following details:
The broadarrow is now stamped underneath the manufacturer's stamp.
Supak Manufacturing Co Ltd is now stamped with capital S, M, C and L; the white line above the name is omitted.
On even later examples:
The name changes to Supak Limited.
The double stitched diamonds are spaced at the regular distance.
