The first prototypes were fitted with a Junkers Jumo 210 piston engine in the nose due to delays with the new jet engines coming online. They then flew with the new jets in place but retained th piston engine for safety. This was a good job, as the early jets sometimes failed.
Another clue to this being a early testing aircraft is the tail wheel. Production 262's went to the familiar tricycle under carriage.
I bet the aircraft was a pig to handle if it did fly, if it was real Ild have thought a larger rudder and fin than the standard 262 would have been needed, I doubt a testbed airframe would have had swept wings either...
