Maybe it is a very early one that is being used as a test bed for the jet engine ?

I agree; you'll notice it also has a piston engine.

    Agreed.

The first prototypes were fitted with a Junkers Jumo 210 piston engine in the nose due to delays with the new jet engines coming online. They then flew with the new jets in place but retained th piston engine for safety. This was a good job, as the early jets sometimes failed.

Another clue to this being a early testing aircraft is the tail wheel. Production 262's went to the familiar tricycle under carriage.

    Cheers, Ade.

Anyone know what the performance of the piston-powered ME-262 was? Without the Jumo engines, that's gotta be the most streamlined piston-powered AC made during the war

Boys, please take a cigarette lighter and burn this piece of model kit, this phantasm of asymmetric "ME 262" never existed, this "it"shown on photo is a fake !

I bet the aircraft was a pig to handle if it did fly, if it was real Ild have thought a larger rudder and fin than the standard 262 would have been needed, I doubt a testbed airframe would have had swept wings either...

Good research, some people will give opinions on things without checking first,I knew I had seen reference to this before but couldn`t remember where.
