I don't want to hijack your thread Dave, but another great german effort IMO is the Blohm & Voss BV141 - the asymmetric observation plane of which only 3 prototypes and 5 evaluation aircraft were ever made. Sadly none have survived of these.

I built a 1/72 BV141 as a child and a very innovative design.

I have seen (once) a 1/48 scale kit but never saw it again.
That would be a great model to build.

Another cool flying machine of WWII is the Flettner 282. Yes its a WWII helicopter. The few that were built were used for reconnaissance and artillery spotting. It was apparently quite a tough aircraft and was even test flown off of U-Boats!

Well spotted in regards to the bomber.

The parasite plane is a bastard; devised by Germans, captured and flown by the Russians in Russia (and piloted by a German pilot(?) there). Brought up to release height by a B-29, which was left stranded in Vladivostok.

In short the not very succesful rocket powered swept wing DFS 346 (Samolyot 346) designed by Felix Kracht at the Deutsche Forschungsanstalt für Segelflug (DFS), the "German Institute for Sailplane Flight".

Here the pilot position - he looks neither comfortable nor enthusiastic.
