The photo's seem to show (at least in part) the transport of P-40's by aircraft carriers USS Ranger and USS Chenango to North Africa during 'Operation Torch' in 1942. Other transport duties involving carriers and Warhawks included trips to West Africa, and Java in the Pacific theatre. There's some interesting info here:

I have always liked the looks of the P40. Especially with the "Flying Tiger"
