Default WWII Spitfire Camera and film

    Hi Guys,

I have been offered this Spitfire camera and blank film.
I really don't know what one is worth or if it was even in a spitfire?
Is there a way to trace it's history through Air force records online?
Can the serial and other numbers be checked or is all that lost?
I would love to know more about it before getting it.
He wants $220 Pounds, just over $400NZD.
Any tips, help, recommendations, would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks,

    Danger

These were used in a number of types of aircraft , seen them in the past for less money and with the storage boxes

    Too much money.

Thank you Kradders for giving me a nudge on this...I know nowt about these and immediately thought "that must be as rare as hens teeth"......so thought I'd take a wander with our friend Google......you're right (of course!)...they do indeed come up for sale and with extra "bits" too (crates, canvas bags, lens extension tubes) and I didn't manage to find any of them priced at that level. As for this particular piece....not a clue....but there's bound to be a Gun-Camera specialist here somewhere....though I fear they'll only do 109s and 190s!!! :-)

As others have rightly said, too much money. The G45 camera was used in many different types of RAF fighter from Spitfire and Hurricane through to the Hawker Hunter in the 1950s.

I don't have the necessary knowledge to determine the age of this one - but again, every aircraft part is automatically 'from a Spitfire' to some sellers, just as every Brodie helmet is from Dunkirk.

Anyhow, these cameras are not rare - you'd be better to do some careful research and bide your time IMO.

I bought one of these cheaply on Ebay about ten years ago. They are interesting items, but I have never been able to pin down a date of manufacture. They have a kings crown, implying pre 1953 manufacture and clearly are broadly of the wartime pattern.

Several different gun cameras can be seen in this wartime footage, including one (seen at 1.01) which is similar or the same.

I have looked up what I paid and it was just £33 in 2010. I imagine its worth a bit more now, but you shouldnt pay a lot for one of these.

....they do seem pretty well priced.....although the other bit...the one with wings on...is considerably higher priced!

Wings and fuselages were always considered as an optional extra.
