Allgemeines Sturmabzeichen - my first one

Article about: Morning all, Here is my first 'GAB' I was told that it is a Meyer/Schickle design example. Iike it, especially as the eagles head is nice, some of them (I think) can look quite poor

    Is it zinc Jamie? It looks like it may be, and those are very uncommon indeed at around 10 to 1 compared to buntmetall/tombak.

    It certainly appears to be. Where the silver wash has worn off/been absorbed, there is that grey colour that we all find so irresistable ha ha.

    So did I do good paying 100 euro for it?

    I had a closer look at the birdy and I think this may be a tombac badge after all. His chest feathers look a bit brassy in colour underneath his silvery quills...

    That's not surprising, it is the far more common type. Still, the buntmetall/tombak type is the one that collectors prefer. Sometimes rareness doesn't equate to desirability and the earlier brass badges are at a premium right now, so winner winner!
