Allgemeines Sturmabzeichen - Rare Tombak Wurster

This is an award I picked up from David's (M16Fan) Vet find. A nice Tombak GAB.

From what I understand, it is a 1st pattern unmarked Karl Wurster. This is not in Frank Heukemes book but would assume it would be the same as the Type 1.17.1 however without a maker mark. I am told by "reliable sources" that this was an unknown variant until recently. It weighs in at 1.4 oz / 40 grams.

The pictures IMHO don't do it justice. As you can see it is real battle worn piece with hints of the underlying bronze colored metal showing on the obverse. It has a round wire catch and pin and a small block hinge. The catch is slightly bent. The patina in certain areas almost looks like in some places it has been painted black.

Click on the photos to enlarge and you can clearly see this especially on the head of the grenade and in the fuller of the bayonet as well around the wreath in places.

I do not know why the photo's show up so small on the screen.

Thanks Stewy. Maybe not "rare" I should have said uncommon...but it takes too long to type....LoL

A 4 rivet zinc coming up in a few minutes. Not as nice though but still ok.

Nothing wrong with four rivet awards ASA or ISA. They're quite special actually & have a trait not often seen, I'll let you figure that one out. A lot of these Wurster hardware set ups suffered from a bent catch. I guess due to the ? Style catch being so proud of the badge & their design. Stewy
