1940 Data Plate Identification please - Possibly Messerschmitt

Hi,

Please can anyone help with the identification of this data plate. It has the following information;


Messer u. Co. Type R1/5904
G.m.b.H. Nr. 420
Frankfurt a. M. Baujahr. 1940


The plate is approx. 100mm long x 35mm high and 1mm Thick.

Could the above mean Messerschmitt und Co. and the Bottom Frankfurt au Main?

Many Thanks and interesting. Would be interesting to know what this plate is from. Seems to be of the Military format for data plates?? The website says they made "pressed armoured cupolas for armoured vehicles" Perhaps this was attached to them?

If nobody is able to shed any more light on this I would be tempted to shoot an email to the company in German and see what they can find in their archives. Good luck.

Hi Al, Good Idea, but I must admit that many of these companies who often manufactured items for the war don't like to get involved, I believe. touchy subject and all. Cheers Edward
