Most of the fuselage burned, what aluminum was left was salvaged right after the crash.

Great photos cav, hallowed ground indeed. Incredible how much of the aircraft has survived 67 winters up in those mountains.

Very sad. There were a great many aircraft accidents during the war years
which were not combat related.
Third photo down on left, are the remains of a 'T-30' throat microphone
and in the fifth photo, on top of the rock, is what looks like the
perforated cooling sleeve for a Browning .50 machine gun.
It would be interesting to sift through all the bits of wreckage !

You are right- it is a throat mike and a .50 cal cooling sleeve, next to the .50 cal ammo chute. The bail-out alarm bell was in surprisingly good shape and still has the wires connected. Lots of interesting artifacts up there.
