I tend to think if it really was dug in Stalingrad, that it belonged to a Jewish Russian soldier, or perhaps a volunteer. Certainly not German.

Hi Richardo, it is not a military buckle either German or Soviet. I suspect it is a civillian buckle? But the design does look period for the 1930/'40's.
Cheers, Ade.

Many thanks Adrian. Yes, I think it's not a military buckle... The "civilian" option is more likely. A civilian who might have fought in the defense of Stalingrad... Many civilians did so, right?

There were many civillians caught up in the battle. It may well have belonged to one of these.
Cheers, Ade.
