Default fleur de lis, french or boyscout?

found me this thing with a fleur de lis.
it's made of cupper, and it is not total flat.
i think it could be the above part of a 2 piece button.
as it was found on a spot where french fought next to the dutch (also found dutch) in 1940 against occupation it could be of a french army button.

but it also could be something boyscout ......
searched much, but can't find a determination myself.

does anybody recognise? got references for me?

Very hard question there, it will be quite hard to answer since the bottom part is almost missing, but from the age and since it was found on a battlefield, it might be a WWII uniform button. Please note it might also be a boyscouts button, they look VERY similar.

    thanks Collectorww2
there's as far as i know no regular relation between boyscouts and this spot. although definate excluding is no option because boyscouts could always have been somewhere for some activity.
i will keep it anyway, so perhaps in the future i'll find the answer. it would be nice to know, but no must.

I don't think the French Army has used the Bourbon fleur-de-lys since circa 1830, and I rather doubt the button is Boy Scout.

It looks much older than 1940, although corrosion is often determined by the environment as much as age.

I think you might find that the 18th century French armies operated in the Netherlands, and in those days buttons were often built around a wooden core which would decay more readily than the brass cover.

I'm just guessing, but I think you might have something that is at least two hundred years old.

that would be very nice and welcome too pat
your reaction makes me think, would i find this one in like a "napoleon-button" book!? that's what i will try

that would be a very nice coincidence to find this one exact on a spot where lateron the french were again in 1940 during occupation.

references are welcome, and i will look at it too. if i find something i will let it know here too.

    @ stuka
